Filipino Friday: Intro Post & New Discoveries

It's that time of the year again, folks! The Filipino Reader Con is happening again this November and I just know it's going to be even more awesome than last year's. And as per tradition, the weeks leading to the big day would include a weekly meme every Friday. Here's the first Filipino Friday meme for the week:

Surprise, Reader! Hello, it’s the first week of Filipino Fridays 2014! Whether it’s your first time to participate or not, tell us a bit about yourself. More specifically, tell us about your favorite book discoveries for this year. Any author you started reading this year that you can’t get enough of? A book you didn’t think you’d like, but you ended up liking/loving? Any book series that you just have to get your hands on? Have you discovered anything new from Filipino authors this year?

My favorite book discovery this year—and I can't stress this enough—is Edgar Samar's Si Janus Silang at ang Tiyanak ng Tabon. I first learned about this new book from a friend's Instagram post (I missed the blog tour) and I got really curious so I bought a copy the following day. After reading it in one sitting, I was an instant fan. I even wrote a review about it just so I could get the feels out of my system. The feels haven't really gone away, to be honest.

And I didn't stop there. I gifted two of my closest friends with a signed book copy just so I would have someone to talk to and I wouldn't go stark raving mad while waiting for the next installment. I also bought the official shirt, wore it on MIBF 2014, and would've made a fanart if I wasn't such a n00b in doing any creative artwork.

Book 1 is already out and the author said so himself that it's going to be more than three books. Yay! I hope more and more people get to read this exciting Filipino YA book so we can all share in the feels with the awesomeness that is Janus Silang.

Do you have any Pinoy book discoveries this year? Join the meme! If you don't have a blog, you can tweet or post a Facebook status and tag the amazing people behind Filipino ReaderCon.

  1. I still have yet to get a copy of this, huhu. Might drop by Uno Morato for this, kasi sabi ni Mina she got her copy from there. :)
